About What's Next

What’s Next Baseball is a consulting group focused on educating players about their ball flight data.  The use of ball tracking tools such as Trackman, Rapsodo, and Hawkeye have become a staple of the MLB and best programs in college baseball, impacting the way the game is played and the valuation of what is important in scouting and recruiting.  Our strength is taking this complex data and distilling it into clear, relatable information, that can be made into actionable strategies.  Whether it is for players, coaches, or agents, we strive to impact our clients through the use of this data, finding solutions to anyone’s problem.

Testimonials

“Coming out of college and knowing the transition into pro ball requires a much more in depth knowledge of understanding pitch data/metrics, I’m grateful to have had Brett as an extremely valuable resource to begin that process.  Reading and understanding data is one thing, but knowing what to use from it to improve, is anything but simple, and Brett was able to present a fantastic plan to take what we learned from the pitch data, and turn it into tangible adjustments to increase spin, movement, velocity, and overall effectiveness of a pitch arsenal.  I recommend Brett to anyone interested in learning more about how to better understand and implement the analytical side of baseball into their game!”

"I’ve long followed Brett on X and found his College Data Breakdowns insightful. As an advisor/agent representing college and professional pitchers, I’ve had the privilege of working with Brett Homer, and his consultations are invaluable. Brett’s ability to break down and analyze Trackman and other pitching data is exceptional, but I was more impressed with his ability to communicate complex data into clear, actionable strategies that players can implement to enhance their performance. I respected his candid approach to his breakdowns, and his ability to walk you through what the data actually shows.

For players, agents, colleges, or pitching coaches seeking a knowledgeable consultant who can provide a strategic advantage for their clients, Brett Homer is an outstanding choice. I will continue to use his services and highly recommend others to do the same."

"Brett has an incredible understanding and knowledge of baseball analytics as so many do today. But the thing that sets Brett apart is that he breaks things down in a very simplistic way and focuses on what each guy's strength truly is and what minor adjustments can be made to improve any weaknesses. Brett is different in an amazing way."

- Rob Childress

“As I made the leap to NCAA Baseball, I noticed the increasing importance of data analytics and Trackman. Brett’s guidance and expertise have been crucial in making this transition as smooth as possible. His extensive knowledge of Trackman and pitching development, along with his effective communication and teaching skills, have seamlessly integrated me into college baseball. He has provided me with the tools and knowledge to independently interpret my Trackman data and apply them to my pitching mechanics, thereby maximizing my pitching development and skills. Brett’s service has played a significant role in my journey, taking my game to the next level and helping me get where I am today. I would 100% recommend Brett's services to anyone looking to make a similar leap in their game."

“Coming into pro-ball I’ve always been a competitor. My game plan was attack with my best stuff, leaning on my Slider as an out pitch, but never really understood why it was effective. My only thought process was “throw it like my Fastball” down and away. Never really understanding the data side on its effectiveness.

When I signed with the Mariners I was introduced to the data side of baseball. At first, I was very skeptical about it due to the lack of information and fear of losing my identity, but I always remembered my main principles, adjustability and consistency. I asked a lot of questions and figured out there is indeed a method on why certain pitchers have more success when using certain pitches more than others.

Working with Brett throughout my bullpen sessions we spoke about a lot of things that were a concern to me from the past, not only from a pitcher’s perspective but also from a hitter’s. As a pitcher you need to see both sides of the ball in order to optimize your potential. Hopping on a Trackman and understanding why certain pitches move the way they do and why some pitches produce more takes than others was my main concern.

Brett had a simple way of explaining this which helped me understand that I needed a Cutter to complement my arsenal and help with my splits. Having a lot of horizontal movement can be a good and a bad thing. I am an East to West guy which to most hitters produces a lot of takes due to them recognizing the pitch out of the hand. With my arsenal, they had a 50/50 chance of guessing what pitch was coming. As we spoke more, we decided that adding Cutter would give hitters another pitch to think about, but also mask the popping effect of my sweeper.

So far here in Japan it’s been working great. In a league that has a low swing and miss rate, the Cutter has produced more strikeouts due to how long it stays in the tunnel with late movement. It’s definitely a pitch that I am still developing to add more velocity, but definitely a pitch I needed to help be more effective."
